Golden is a great place for outdoor
enthusiasts. Most of the property on both Table
Mountains have recently been purchased by Jefferson
County Open Space, which means that they are open
for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding.
The walking trails along Clear Creek are very
popular. The Golden Parks provide tennis courts
(Lions Park), batting cages (Ulysses Park), soccer
and baseball fields (Ulysses). Our golf course,
Fossil Trace, has won design awards and offers
breath-taking scenery. The Splash water park is
popular during the summer. Many of our
neighborhoods are hilly enough that you can get in a
good mountain hike just by walking up the street.

| The Lookout Mountain Nature Center
and Preserve is well worth visiting.
Located just above the city on Lookout
Mountain, they have a beautiful
facility, built largely of recycled
materials. Exhibits cover migrating
birds and information about the
ponderosa pine forest. The center sits
on a 110 acre property that includes
several nature trails.

The
Dinosaur Ridge people maintain a special trail
on the west side of Fossil Trace, called the
Triceratops Trail. It's a bit difficult to find,
but worth it, as the short walk leads you to some
great fossils.

trail....

Paragliding over Golden
At times when you are driving around
Golden, you look up and the sky is full of
paragliders! Mt. Zion is a very popular departure
point. Golden has several outfits that cater to the
first-timer, as well as advanced training for the
more experienced adventurers. Hang-gliders
participate, too!
The Rocky Mountain Hang Gliding and
Paragliding Association holds many events in Golden.
