Downtown Golden is where it all
started--and where it's still happening today!
The first settlers came to this area in the early
days of the Colorado Gold Rush. Following
Clear Creek, they found occasional bits of gold in
the streambed. Some followed the water upward
into the mountains, but many settled here, in this
valley, determined to strike it rich by supplying
the miners with food, clothing, and equipment.
Within days after the first settlers arrived in
Golden, in 1859, we had our first stores.
Downtown Golden is still a good place to shop.
The dining options are many and varied too, and
there are several places to stay downtown.
There are also lots of recreational options, whether
you like kayaking or museums or hiking or music.
